ALK Gene Translocation in Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor of the Urinary Bladder: A Case Report
نویسندگان
چکیده
A 26-year-old woman with gross hematuria was seen in a previous hospital. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a tumor at the dome of the urinary bladder with invasion outside of the bladder wall. The patient underwent transurethral resection of the bladder tumor (TUR-BT). From the result of the pathological examination, the tumor was suggested to be carcinosarcoma of the bladder. The patient was then referred to our hospital for treatment. We performed radical cystectomy and ileal conduit diversion. Pathological examination of the excised specimen revealed an inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor as the basis for immunostaining of anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK).

Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor of Urinary Bladder
Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is an uncommon benign tumor of intermediate neoplastic potential, characterised by spindle cell proliferation with characteristic fibroinflammatory and pseudosarcomatous appearance. A subset of IMT with histologic atypia and/or clinical aggressiveness is also known. IMTs occur in the mesentery, omentum, retroperitoneum, pelvis, and abdominal soft tissues...
متن کاملInflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor of the Urinary Bladder: A Case Report
An inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a distinctive neoplasm composed of myofibroblastic and fibroblastic spindle cells, accompanied by inflammatory infiltration of plasma cells, lymphocytes, and eosinophils. IMTs rarely occur in the urinary bladder. It is important to distinguish this tumor from other malignant spindle cell tumors. Herein, we report a patient with an IMT showing muscl...
متن کاملAn inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor exhibiting immunoreactivity to KIT: a case report focusing on a diagnostic pitfall
Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors (IMTs) and gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are both spindle cell tumors, and occur rarely in the wall of the urinary bladder. In general, immunostaining allows differentiation of IMTs and GISTs. Most IMTs are positive for anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) and negative for KIT, whereas most GISTs are ALK-negative and KIT-positive. Here, we describe a ca...
متن کاملAnaplastic Lymphoma Kinase (ALK) and p53 Are Potentially Useful Markers to Distinguish Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor
Aims: Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) of the urinary bladder is a clinically and histologically uncommon benign tumor that can be easily mistaken for a malignant neoplasm. We sought to determine whether immunohistochemical staining would be evaluated IMT of the urinary bladder. We have also shown the literatures that imminohistochemical staining of IMT was investigated to distinguish m...

A case of epithelioid inflammatory myofibroblastic scarcoma (EIMS) developing in an 8-year-old boy who presented with a bulky intra-abdominal occupying lesion with recurrence undergoing a radical resection was reported. Histologically, the tumor cells arranged in cords, strands or sheets of round-to-epithelioid cells with a vesicular nuclear chromatin pattern, prominent nucleoli and weakly eosi...
